Vintage Vibe  |  A Deering darling once again

This house in the Deering neighborhood was a classic 2-1/2 story duplex, charming but—to put it mildly—well-worn. Our client wanted to renovate it into a modern, comfortable home for their young family, add space, and preserve neighborhood housing stock by retaining a second unit, all while dramatically improving environmental performance and shrinking its carbon footprint. A second phase is planned to modernize the exterior.

We raised the roofline to create a sunny, superinsulated third story, and updated interior finishes, insulation, windows, and systems throughout. One of the owners has a blossoming interior design business, and special attention was paid to marrying the historic details of the interior with a fresh, contemporary take—yielding a home that's cozy and bright, eminently liveable, and with an inspired, enchanting aesthetic.
