Four-and-a-half things you should know about us
We're really committed to green construction
Reducing carbon footprint and maximizing efficiency is a priority for us in every project. From advanced thermal envelope practices like Passivhaus air-sealing standards, robust insulation and triple-pane windows to low-carbon material choices, every one of our buildings moves the world closer to sustainability. It also means we sweat the details that make buildings last longer, because ultimately that's one of the best ways to reduce environmental impact.
We also love great architectural design
You may notice some particularly striking buildings in our Project Gallery. We don't think of beautiful architecture as an extra; our AIA award-winning Design Director is a co-founder of the company, so it's baked right in to our company DNA. Not to mention that it's a source of joy for all of us. But great design isn't only about appearance. To us it also means our buildings are easy to live in, with natural flow, lots of light and great air quality.
Design + Build = bigger than the sum of its parts
We're comfortable working with other architects and contractors, but our design-build capabilities mean we can bring additional advantages when we fill both roles. We're big believers in the value of Integrated Design (an industry term meaning "we're all in this together") and have a natural inclination to work collaboratively. We bring the whole project team on board from the get-go: client, designer, builder, engineer, trade subcontractors—everyone. It makes the process more efficient, and eliminates the mistakes that can occur when people with essential expertise aren't in the room from the beginning.
Building a really exceptional culture
We strive to treat everyone fairly. For customers, that means open lines of communication and honest and transparent pricing. For our crew, we foster a diverse, respectful and positive culture and offer salaries and benefits we're proud of.
And in case it sounds like we're always serious
Um, not. We love to laugh, and generally have a damn good time together, clients included. Which may be our favorite part of the whole process.
Our founders
Sometimes the stars align, and you just know it. The three of us had collaborated on dozens of projects—Heather as owner of Thompson Johnson Woodworks, Rachel as owner of Rachel Conly Design, and Mark as Lead Carpenter at TJW—and we knew if we joined forces, something really special would come of it. We all hold strong convictions about the importance of moving the building industry towards environmental sustainability, and of creating great employee culture. And we all appreciate buildings that are so beautifully designed they just make you happy. So when the time was right, we merged and became Juniper Design + Build. And we're glad we did.
Our crew
Okay, we're partial—but seriously, you have to meet these people. Good luck? Good planning? We don't know, but we work with some of the smartest, funniest, just darn good-est people we know. Scratch the surface of any one of them and you'll be amazed. This one's an artist, that one's a not-so-amateur meteorologist, and that one over there is just a beautiful old soul. And every one of them is really (really) good at what they do.
